“The zinc plates come from my archive of recycled material, from my Müllarchiv, kept for many, many years in my studio-workshop. They were kept in an old folder that belonged to my father, a journalist, and on the folder was written Matritzen = matrices that were still used in the 1950s/60s for printing newspapers.
However, they are stained metals, sometimes even with color, or small scratches, and the back side seems to have been in contact with some acid solutions, which left strange patterns.
The work has an autobiographical content, the material used has its own historical origin. I applied a small red ray to lighten the image.
The year in quotes – 2024 – is part of the title, in the sense that the marks or stains on the zinc plates, signal the events that mark it for good, but more realistically for bad, leaving an uncertain world.”
